How Golden Health Can Help You Appeal an IRMAA Surcharge
If you've been hit with an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA) but believe your income has changed due to a major life event, you have the right to appeal. At Golden Health, we simplify this process and help you navigate the necessary steps to reduce your Medicare costs.
When Can You Appeal IRMAA?
You may qualify for an appeal if you've experienced a life-changing event that significantly lowered your income, such as:
-
Retirement or reduced work hours
-
Loss of pension or other income source
-
Marriage, divorce, or death of a spouse
-
Loss of rental or investment income
How Golden Health Supports Your Appeal
🇺🇸 Step 1: Reviewing Your IRMAA Notice
We help you understand your IRMAA determination letter and confirm whether you meet the appeal criteria.
🇺🇸 Step 2: Gathering the Right Documents
To file a successful appeal, you need proof of your income change. We assist in collecting documents such as:
-
Recent tax returns
-
Employer statements (if retired or had income loss)
-
Divorce or death certificates (if applicable)
🇺🇸 Step 3: Completing Form SSA-44
The Social Security Administration (SSA-44) form is required to request a review of your IRMAA surcharge. We guide you in filling out the form correctly, ensuring no missing information that could delay the process.
🇺🇸 Step 4: Submitting & Following Up
Once the form is complete, we provide step-by-step guidance on submitting it to Social Security via mail or in person. If needed, we help you track the status of your appeal and advise on next steps if further action is required.

In 2025, if your income exceeds certain thresholds, you may be subject to an additional charge on your Medicare Part B and Part D premiums, known as the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA). This surcharge is determined based on your Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) from your 2023 tax return. Please refer to the table below for 2025 IRMAA charges.
Filing Status | MAGI | Part B Monthly Premium | Part D Monthly IRMAA |
